Any Given Child
Sacramento’s art community is coming out to ensure that all students in the region have quality and consistent access to arts experiences. Arts are a critical element of a child’s education, helping students pay attention and engage in learning. They provide a means to build confidence and the creative thinking skills so important in today’s work world. Research shows that student involvement in the arts is linked to higher academic performance, higher scores on standardized tests, greater involvement in the community and lower dropout rates. Despite this evidence, arts education funding has dropped dramatically in recent years. Students are leaving school without benefiting from exposure to visual, literary, performing and digital arts.
How can we ensure students are getting connected to the arts here in Sacramento?
In 2009, Mayor Kevin Johnson launched the For Arts’ Sake initiative to strengthen Sacramento’s arts resources. Sacramento was chosen by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as the very first site in the county to pilot the “Any Given Child” program. Any Given Child seeks to ensure that every child in every K-8 school has access to high quality arts experiences.
In the first year of programming, Any Given Child Sacramento reached 37,000 students in 89 classrooms in two school districts. Artist work alongside classroom teachers to help make science, math and history concepts come alive through music, dance, theatre, digital and visual arts. Imagine how theatre illustrates literature and history!
We’re now expanding the program to six new schools and inviting additional districts to participate. Donate now to support this important program!

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported Any Given Child at the "Hearts for the Arts" art auction benefit on February 8th at the Alex Bult Gallery. It was a fabulous event filled with beautiful art and positive energy - and everyone had a great time! We are happy to announce we raised just under $14K for arts education in K-8 schools in the Sacramento Unified and Twin Rivers School districts. Big thanks and love to all the sponsors, artists, volunteers, committee members and governing council for their dedication to making it happen!
